EAS 2101 Lecture 3: THe blanket exercise

76 views2 pages

Document Summary

In our most recent class we had the privilege of performing a blanket exercise. A blanket exercise begins with a number of blankets laid out on the floor representing the different regions of canada. Then each member of the circle picks a region and territory and represents the first peoples on the region or territory. We are then walked through the colonization process. You watch as slowly the people from the blankets disappear, you listen to the events that occurred, you see the blankets slowly folded up, or tossed aside until there is very little left. After the first class we watched whose land is it anyway and wrote a reflection. I remember writing about how i didn"t think 450 needed all that land. Looking at all that had been taking from indigenous people their land, their culture, and their families, was really disturbing because most of my life all i heard was people trying to justify them.
