Document Summary

> if the actual rate of unemployment < natural rate of unemployment , inflation rate will accelerate/get worse. > natural rate is the only sustainable rate of unemployment. Left wingers (& poli-sci people) say they think almost all of the current level of unemployment is cyclical, theres not enough jobs out there and so it"s not natural! Right wingers (& economists) say a certain amount of unemployment is inevitable, so there"s nothing we can do/should do to lower the rate of unemployment, its around 7-8%, most of the unemployment we see today is structural. Causes (not types) of unemployment: job search. > matching the right worker with the right job takes time and resources. > job are created and destroyed at the same time (so people are always spending time (unemployed) to find a better/new job) > better and the faster the matching process = more efficient labour market. > long term unemployment is unhealthy for the economy.
