Methane concentrations have more than doubled due to fossil fuels, livestock emissions (cows), fermentation in the soils, rice production. N2o (nitrous oxide) levels have increased due to auto emissions, manufacturing chemicals, fertilizers containing nitrogen. Deforestation: cutting down trees means those trees cannot take in the co2 in surrounding areas and more co2 goes into the atmosphere; before this 50% of the earths total organic carbon storage was found in tropical forests. Oceans: can dissolve co2; but over time the ph of the ocean will decrease, which will have an effect on organisms with a carbonate shell (they wont be able to precipitate their shell) Predicted ph decrease of 170% in year 2100.
