You need to look at all of the wires to get the full picture. We focus on the individuals instead of the systems, when we constantly focus on individual stories instead of systemic ones it. Vast majority about racism focus on individual levels of racism and exclude the systemic ones. If we focus on the individual ones then we focus on correcting this person and not the entire system. It encourages us to see individual stories of individuals transcending racism instead of correcting it (ex: oprah & obama). If an individual can"t overcome racism (ex: oprah did it) then it"s the individual"s fault. It doesn"t allow us to have conversations of current events that are occurring (ex: pipeline, schools, prisons ) The individual holds power when they know how systems work. Not everyone has equal power, oppression among other things affect power.
