Document Summary
Geography is a method (spatial analysis), not a body of knowledge/discipline. Integrates material from a wide range of other fields. Study (through spatial analysis) the interactions between the earth"s 5 spheres. A: from the earth"s surface & up (gases, dust, aerosols etc. ) H: all water on earth = ~ 71% of t earth"s surface (glaciers, oceans etc. ) B: life on earth (terrestrial and marine, vegetation, microscopic etc) C: snow, ice (including sea ice) and frozen ground (permafrost) Examine interactions from a microscopic to a global scale. A system: a set of variables and the relations between them, distinct from others outside the system. Allows for rational subdivision of the world. Increases the likelihood that all relevant variables are included. Assist in decision-making for intervention (ex. cleaning an oil spill) Open: input and output of both energy and matter [ex. Closed: input and output of energy, but no exchange pf matter [ex. Global hydrological cycle (no gain/loss of water globally)]
