Traditional focus is on why migrations occur. Today there is more interest is the experience of migration & its outcomes. Globalization of migration, diversity of flows, immigration policies & controls, illegal migration & trafficking, gender & migration. The transformation to conceptions of place identity & home. Migration studies: description, analysis, and theories pertaining to the movement of people. Migration related of the uneven development of different regions, as well as global labour divisions. Mobility: the ability to move (permanent or temporary) Usually implies short distance moves (within a city) Migration: long distance moves to a new location. Has always been associated with social change. Indentured labour: contract to work for an employer for a specified period, often for little/no pay in exchange for accommodation, food & essentials, as well as passage to a new country. International migration: movement from one country to another. Voluntary migration: a move that is the consequence of choice.
