Economic development: process of change involving the nature and composition of the economy in the overall prosperity of the region. 3 types of changes: structure of economy, forms of economic organization, technology. National level: urban centres vs. hinterland and rural peripheries. Individual level: differences from one person to another: social class, education, occupation. Uneven geographical development: the spatially and temporarily uneven processes and outcomes (socio-economic and physical) that are characteristic of and functional to capitalism. Uneven development an inherent part of the capitalist space economy. Relationship interpreted as being more than just direct, it is a necessary one for capitalism to function ef ciently. Gross domestic product (gdp): estimate of total value of all materials, foodstuffs, goods, and services that are produced by a country in a particular year.
