June 1941 invasion of soviet union by nazi germany. Invasion doesn"t come as a surprise to anyone except stalin, he had always been open about his dislike of communism and bolshevism, Russian spy discovers the plan and informs stalin, but he refuses to believe that this is happening, he thinks that this is a great scheme by britain. 3 million men will invade soviet union, fighting happens on a massive scale, at first things go really well for germany. Hitler is so confident he doesn"t even send his troops with winter clothing, they started at the beginning of june and winter in russia comes early. Leningrad: in the north german military reaches leningrad and puts the city under siege that lasts. 900 days: russian army and people will prevail, but many will die from hunger because of problems getting food into the city, hundreds of thousands of people will die but they will hold strong.
