Document Summary

W/out this one wouldn"t have had wwii (very important war) Was an industrial - industrialized the way we fought. Britain needs to keep control of the oceans and one of their goals is to always have the strongest navy: protect the seas for their commercial benefit. Britain and germany entered a naval arms race. When britain sees germany building lots of ships, they start making a lot more. Arms race increases tensions because normally war ships and war weapons are built with a war in mind (they are built to be used) More weapons you have, more tempting it is to use them. Alliance system exists mainly because people are afraid of germany. Germany becomes a problem for russia, britain and france individually, which pushes them together. Both germany and austria-hungary are concerned with russia which is what links them. Italy changes sides to the triple entente during war.
