Brutal killings, murder in leszno, poland; shooting jews in the ukraine, etc. May 1940 germans ready to attack avoid the fortifications, go through forest. May 10th 1940 german attack on western europe begins. Paris is overrun on 14th of june. French are forced to surrender on the 22nd june armistice signed: in same german carriage in which germans had been forced to surrender. Summer 1940 -6 democracies left in europe: only sizeable one is britain. Operation barbarossa: attack on soviet union, begins summer 1941, attempt to take control of su territory. Rich in resources: german army advances easily in beginning. November 1941 close to 4 million killed, wounded, or captured. German army loses ground: battle of stalingrad, etc.
