~6 million jews died: not 100% sure. Holocaust not as systematic as we are led to believe. Not about the numbers: the people suffered because of who they were. Creator of the legal term genocide: raphael lemkin: polish, fought against nazis in 1939, injured and escaped, refugee in usa in 1941, lawyer before war, invents the term genocide. Destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group. Not limited to the holocaust/killings of jews. Trying to kill every man, woman, and child". Holocausts still happen in parts of europe less modern, more superstitious, etc. Holocaust not a freak event but happened as a growth of modernity. Medieval jews: some privileged moneylenders, financers of major kingdoms, etc, only ones allowed to charge interest, only ones able to make money through lending money, when debt became to big, they would be expelled from the land.
