Interests in mind, body, and environment: how they all affect one another. Sympathy is typically seen as male, this tended to also be called sensibility. Was against capital punishment: sensitization act rather than moral. He believed that the doctor supposed to give sympathy to their students: suffer along with sufferers, can"t be a good doctor without understanding the patient"s feelings. Hume"s opinion is that a doctor must feel pain through imagination. Rush thought that doctors must die like martyrs: coming into contact with diseases on a daily basis may give the doctor the sickness, one must risk their life for their patients. Patients had jobs to do/responsibilities: most patients were vulnerable to quacks, they often did not follow doctors" suggestions/rules. Even though rush was progressive he still followed heroic medicine: usually heroic medicine would kill or make the patient sicker more than it would cure. He would practice heroic medicine using: mercury cures, purging, bleeding.
