Document Summary
Igg is a maternal antibody; can cross placenta and help fetus when it is born. Iga; two y shaped molecules connected by a chemical bond; found in body fluids (tears, saliva etc. ); sound in different parts of body, useful in fighting off infections; dimer, means it has 4 prongs to go and look or antigens and is efficient in cross linking bacteria. Igm; pentomere, 5 y shaped molecules, 10 prongs to bind to bacteria, very efficient. If exposed to same pathogen again; can fight it off much faster, does not revert to primary response: secondary response has no latent period; has instantaneous production of antibody because cell has been primed. Initially when you have the primary response, the 21 days that it takes to build up the antibodies, the bacteria is growing and you are likely to get sick.
