Document Summary
There are microorganisms almost everywhere in the environment and in association with higher animals and plants. The different classes of organisms generally regarded as microorganisms and vary widely in their sizes, levels of complexity as well as abilities to grow in different growth conditions. Microorganism: organisms invisible to the naked eye (viruses, bacteria, fungi and some parasites). The majority are harmless, many of them useful. Only a very small proportion produce harmful effects in animals and plants but they often make up the majority of our focus! Bio = life logy = study (of) or science. Immunology: study of our protection from foreign macromolecules or invading organisms and our responses to them. Nucleic acid (either rna or dna never both!) Attach, inject nucleic acid (penetration), highjack synthetic processes inside cells to make more viruses, package, get out while going is good. Possess only one type of nucleic acid (either dna or rna) - never both!
