Causes giardiasis (infecion of small bowel) with a 1-4 week incubaion period. Diagnosed by ideniicaion of cysts (formed by trophozoites in bowel) in microscopy. Most frequent in areas of poor sanitaion and in children. Causes vaginiis (itching, foul-selling discharge), usually asymptomaic in males. Causes ameobiasis (infecion of the large intesine that may be asymptomaic or may spread) Caused by poor sanitaion, spread by water, veggies, lies and food handlers. Causes toxoplasmosis (usually mild and undetected), may cause congenital infecion that is serious. Caused by raw/undercooked meat or contact with cat shit. Cause diferent types of malaria (chills, sweats etc) Spread via bite of anopheline mosquitos or transfusion of infected donor. Causes cryptosporidiosis, may cause diarrhea, vomiing etc (dangerous in immunocompromised) Diagnosed via ideniicaion of oocysts in fecal specimens. Causes cyclosporiasis that may result in prolonged, severe diarrhea. Ideniied by oocysts in fecal specimens that are transmited through contaminated water or food.
