May be diagnosed by serology or on clinical grounds. Mycoplasma hominis and ureaplasma urealyicum part of the normal genital lora. Molds: mulicellular colonies of clumps of intertwined and branching hyphae. Saprophytes: live and use organic mater as their energy source. Pityrasis versicolour= hypo/hyper pigmented patches that remain white if you suntan. Inea nigra= painless black colored patches on soles of hands and feet. Dermatophyses= live in dead, horny layer of skin, hair and nails, secretes kerainase to cause scaling of skin and hair loss. Tinea cruris (jock itch)- itchy red patches on groin and scrotum. Tinea pedis (athlete s foot)- commonly begins between toes. Tinea capiis (scalp)- mostly in kids, red lesions and hair loss. Candida albicans- can infect mouth causes oral thrush, diaper rash and vaginiis. Sporothrix schenckii- causes sporotrichosis (occupaional hazard for gardeners) Causes ulcer, may be necroic can be treated with potassium iodide. Causes chromoblatomycosis, found on roing wood (caused by puncture wound)
