Extremely cold winter; growing season accidents (farmland), building of roads; epidemics of smallpox, etc. Origins of the type of medical practice we have today were derived from the past. Barber-surgeons: first allopathic med practitioners - dispensing avail med. Practice of bleeding as a treatment; surgery was practiced only in limbs & surface of body (internal surgery mostly results in death b/c bleeding & sepsis are preventable yet)
