HSS 2381 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Observational Study, Sampling Distribution, Random Variable
Document Summary
Review: qualitative is not about number, quantitative is with numbers, discrete = whole number and integers, continuous = decimals. Study design: determine the design of the study, collect the data, organize the data, analyze the data to answer the question. Study design types: observational study observes data that already exists, an experiment generates data to help identify cause and effect relationships. Representative sample: has the same relevant characteristics as the population and does not favor one group from the population over another, the sample has to be equal in order to make sure that the representation is fair. Random sample: every member has an equal chance of being selected, drawi(cid:374)g (cid:374)a(cid:373)es, givi(cid:374)g (cid:374)u(cid:373)(cid:271)ers . Sampling: cluster sample: populating divided into subgroups called clusters that are similar to the population and while clusters are choosing at random. Sampling: systematic sample: selecting every nth member of the population.
