HSS 3103 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Urinary Tract Infection, Coronary Artery Disease
Document Summary
4 main barriers to access health care: physical, attitudinal, expertise, and systemic. Ppl with disabilities tend to experience poorer levels of health than general pop: more likely to experience 1 health conditions and develop 2 health conditions. More likely to experience poor health outcomes b/c their needs not met. At risk of negative health behaviors, greater risk being exposed to abuse, unintentional injuries, premature death, lower educational achievements, less economic involvement, higher rate of poverty. Primary health condition: possible starting point of disability i. e depression, arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ischemic heart disease, cerebral palsy, bipolar disorder, glaucoma, cerebrovascular disease. Secondary health condition: additional condition that develops over time i. e pressure ulcers, urinary tract infections, depression can reduce functioning, lower quality of life, increase health costs, lead to premature mortality. Many are preventable and anticipated from primary conditions (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) from 1 condition.
