Mill must be seen as social inspiration for contemporary thinkers like amartya sen. Benjamin constant"s account of liberty: link between the conception of freedom and liberty. Political liberalism: thomas hobbes: a crude liberalism, john locke: liberty, pluralism, and tolerance. Rousseau"s romanticism: the noble savage, the general will. Ethical liberalism: immanuel kant: intellectual father of the contemporary human rights, john stuart mill: civil and social liberties. He leaves any analysis of the state of nature, hypothetical or otherwise, aside. Passionate advocate of freedom of speech and thought. Mill believes that when you talk about liberty, it means protecting people against rulers, if rulers want to disregard the liberty of people, they can revolt against the rulers. In addition to this, he suggests that politics must be created based on liberty, it"s not only about guaranteeing the people"s liberty. Even in liberal democracies, the people or the nation may become tyrants and suppress the true meaning of liberty.
