Godfray (2010) identifies 3 main challenges: match the rapidly changing demand for food from a larger and more affluent population to its supply. Meat: do so in ways that are environmentally and socially sustainable, ensure that the poorest ppl are no longer hungry. Less than a dollar a day, basic needs are not met. In 2008 there was food price crisis, which rose the levels of undernourishment. On avg food prices (staples) since 1961were falling over time, but in the late 70 food prices saw spikes in prices. Food crop production was turned into biofuel, and less availability in the market. Regional food security: prices in the north in canada, where there is less availability to grow food. From the 1960 on wars the asian green rev started with rice, main grains are seen as important. Lots of dedicated irrigation was dedicated towards these main grains.
