Document Summary
People to keep in mind: godbey, franklin, disraeli, eastman, aristotle, thoreau, peter, These authors each have a different meaning on the de nition of leisure; leisure is a cultural motion and case-speci c motion. Jeff godbey is the guru of leisure studies. He has written a number of books on leisure. When asked to conceptualize leisure, he talks about time, state of mind and activity. He feels as if they are all important, but emphasizes state of mind; leisure can be for anyone in anytime, and anywhere, and it is cognitive(intrinsic, own perception). It is dif cult to professionalize this de nition because there is no standard de nition because, according to godbey, it is state of mind. To have leisure, is one of the earliest dreams of human beings. Free to pursue what one wants, free of the entirety of nature, and of other human beings. Free to exist in a state of grace.
