College of nurses of ontario is the regulatory body in ontario. You must pass the test and register with this before you can practice. The regulatory body protects the public; that is their goal. They make standards, check up on you, audits, and reprimand when they find something wrong. Rnao (registered nurses" association of ontario) protects the nurses. Ontario nurses association is the union, the union is what represents you. Canadian nurses protective society, comprised mostly of nurse lawyers that educate nurses on legal issues and how to follow the law. If you get in trouble they support you. You must have malpractice insurance as a nurse. Alberta has one body, its regulatory and an association and when you register with them it comes with malpractice insurance. In the rest of the word, rpn"s are called licensed practical nurses (lpn"s) In western provinces rpn are what they call registered psychiatric nurses.
