The demographic is also changing; older people are living longer and less people are being born: issue for health care system in terms of resources. Frame of reference: basis = rather than using the medical term illness it is the sociological concept of illness trajectory which is theoretically distinct from the course of the illness. Cancer different from copd: all aspects need to be taken into consideration to understand how the trajectory will be influenced, you adapt your intervention depending on where the patient is in the trajectory. Time prior to dx, the disclosure of the dx, the time after the dx. Acute stages include physical and mental impairment so serious that medical treatment is necessary and life is threatened. Physical and mental stabilization, advance recovery, biographical: normalization work as supplementary.
