One company has ownership of lots of media outlets. Concentration of who own the media is very small. There are only 5 major companies who own all the media we see. Time warner cable, comcast, disney, cbs, news corp, viacom. Afraid that the messages we get will be bias. So few people, the messages will be bias towards those companies involved. Implicit drive to sensationalize - make it more entertaining. Because they are a business - it distorts the news they produce. If it"s a business, it"s run by business owners. Tend to promote the good views of business. Non for profit media is so valuable because there are no profit bias or biases towards certain companies. Usually talk about media being left or right. These concepts shut down debate rather than opening it up. The first step is to know what right and left are. Right: little to no interference in the market by the government.
