Document Summary

One of the places where people started developing the logic system: ancient greeks (solid logic system) 4th century. Logic comes from the word logos language world. Syn = put together, logism = logos. Magic number is 3 (3 steps to come up with certain truths) Aristotle and others learned that there are four distinct categories of statements. Latin affirmo = affirmative, nego = negative. Whenever you say all something you"re making a universal claim. Particular affirmative (i) second vowel in affirmo. If you want to say something about anything, it"s one of these statements. If you arrange any of these statements in order, you will arrive at certainly true conclusions (provided there are true premises and a valid structure which gives you a sound argument) Put words together to form categorical syllogism. Eg plato is a man (first premise), all men are mortal (second premise), therefore plato is mortal (conclusion) (categorical syllogism)
