Is racism and racialization that makes race real: it is real because we must discuss race in our understanding of the world. Ex. the election outcomes: more blacks voted for clinton and more whites for trump. Justification of slavery: slavery in the us was at a time when europeans did not agree with slavery. Race became a real thing because of the shared experience black americans were subjected to and thus unified by. Black americans are part of this racialization by descent as well. Shared experiences, a sense of solidarity and the reality of racialized people"s lives. Ex. incarcerations rates, education, employment opportunities etc. vary based on race. Also how you perceive yourself and how others/ society perceive you. Therefore, race is not produced by biology, but by the social construct and the realities of being a racialized person and shared cultural characteristics. Beliefs/ attitudes: sense of superiority based on skin colour.
