Back then, there was no equality between people. hierarchy. Theory: people are equal in their differences. Meritocracy: what you get is what you earn. Everything has a function, and things (humans) are valued by the function. Kant= people are equal regardless of differences. John rawls (20th century americans)= theory of justice. Take a group of rational human beings. in order to create a just system, you have to have it from a most just position possible. You get to create a world, but do not get to choose your place in it.
