Phi2397 lecture 10, 24th october 2014 (lecture 8 was midterm and 9 was lockdown) Video 1: oscars: elia kazan (famous director in hollywood some people were furious as he won the oscars. He was also an infamous informer a rat a snitch due the early 1950s mccarthy era a lot of people lost their jobs and were on the blacklist. He was in other words a whistleblower. ) Is there ever a time when it is right/good to be an informer? (history says it is not) An informer is someone who violates the sacred virtues of loyalty, friendship, trust, etc. Main argument is breach of loyalty which a whistleblower is doing. When you breach it, the person is known as a traitor. Video 2: airplane video: john nance, discovery channel, alaska airline 261, Mary schaivo, everyone 88 died instantly, john leotine. It"s impossible to work in the same industry or the government if you are a whistleblower.
