PHI 3382 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Critical Philosophy, Mind, Intentionality
Document Summary
One of the best known sections of the first critique. One of the best known writings of kant. Plays a huge part in defining kant"s main projects: transcendental aesthetics, transcendental analytics. First section of the critique after the preface. Transcendental: relating to a priori knowledge/understanding/forms. Receptivity from sense perception: related to art. Objects of the metaphysics: god, soul, the world. We need to understand how metaphysics understand these objects. Before we figure out how we understand, we first need to understand how we know. What is good about reason: not affected by anything, not conditioned. What"s at stake: the copernican revolution. World revolves around sun: the kantian sun. Kant is reversing the relationship between subject and object. Traditionally, we looking for the subject within the object. Kant is saying we can"t really know the object by it self. Kant says we only experience the phenomena as the object is exposed to me.
