Document Summary

The peripheral nervous system: afferent division -- senstory inputs. Consists of nerve fibres that carry information between the parts of the body (and special sensory organs) to the cns. Sends infomration form internal and external environment to the cns. Many cranial nerves and almost all spinal nerves are compound nerves, meaning that they have both sensory and motor axons in them. Nerves are tightly grouped in a tough connective tissue sheath, and within the bundle are nerve fascicle that has its own blood supply, that bring nutrience. Axons in the pns have the ability to regenerate, while in the cns the olgiodendrites actively prohibit nerve spreading and growth. Receptors (pns) and processing centres (cns) that integrate and create the sensory modalities. Primary somatosensory area is located in the parietal loves of the cerebral cortex. Conscious interpretation of the external world derived from sensory input. Why sensory input does not give a true reality.
