East asian financial crisis 1997: currency crisis. > worries about the strength of economies and their currencies. > this worry was said to be spread by globalization. Serious questioning of capitalism and it"s system: constant booms and busts. Capitalists international activities could change social organization of production on a world scale. Marx sees capitalism of both good and bad: massive suffering, but potential for progressive change. It is efficient and has incredible production power. But can also cause oppression and suffering.
