Matters of left and right, how the political world is interpreted/defined/explained/etc. People are made of a whole host of identities, at any given time one identity could take over the rest. These are reflections of how people see themselves/ affect how they act on political cultures. Elite cultures: closed knit communities, highly educated oppose to other classes, high class. Able to cover much more greater issues. The idea that explains why particular behaviors and attitudes prevail. People are made up of multiple identities. No reason why one identity will prevail over others. A reaction to the marxist and class theory. The idea here is that politics is actually dominated by a small group of people -- elites. Recognizes that political culture changes over time. Elites decay, and more come into the picture. The concept of mass democracy is not possible because politics is dominated by a small group of people.
