It is important to remember that culture is no society; but the expression of a society in the forms of art, literature. Culture is the bequest of a historical society, achievement of greatness. Not all societies leave much that is worth preserving. Two attitudes that preclude understanding of our age: doomists. There will be an end to the civilized way as we know it. Apocalyptic visions are often the product of neurotic despair: illusionists. Still building their city on the hill. Lack the courage to look the reality of their own age in the face. Anxious not to appear romantic or nostalgic for past glory. While we have achieved high living standards, also a belief that there must be a need to top it off with a brilliant shining culture. Greeks were at the center of their political society. Proletarian is the aggregate of fringe dwellers.
