Document Summary
One neuron may be connected to hundreds or millions of other neurons: golgi & s. ramon y cajal won the nobel prize 1906. Golgi bought a microscope and dyed neurons from the brain because without the dye it is a blob under the microscope, then sketched the neurons (he was an artist before being a scientist) Refused to speak to one another (golgi and ramon y cajal) Cajal was right about how the neurons communicated with each other. Transmit impulses received by sensory receptors to central nervous system (cns). Carry outgoing signals from cns to muscles & glands. Often, far removed from either sensory or motor neurons. All cells carry an electrical charge (potential) The charge of he neuron can change. This allows one neuron to communicate to another (or to perhaps a muscle) Excess of negatively charged ions inside the nerve cell. Charge is about -70 mvolt (mv) for humans.
