Document Summary
Influences on perception: gestalt, form/depth perception, perceptual consistency, etc. Gestalt whole -- we try to make something whole and give it meaning with our perspective set. Form perception -- recognize faces and other objects as distinct from background surroundings. Organizing image in a way that makes sense to us w top-down processing. Grouping -- another gestalt effect: organizing principles -- proximity, similarity, continuity, connectedness, closure (i. e. see columns , sets of objects) Perception of depth and distance -- binocular (2 eye cues), monocular (1 eye cues), size and shape constancy cues (based on learning and experience since infancy) Size and shape constancy -- objects change shape with our angle of view, but we still understand what they are, we learn what an object"s normal size is. Perceptual set influences what we think we see, though the image (illusion) is identical to our senses.
