Document Summary
Classical conditioning/learning (how all animals cope with their environment) Works off already established behavioural patterns (i. e. automatic bodily responses -- response to fear: increased heart rate, dry mouth, etc. ) Classic paradigm: lightning stimuli, biological response to environment [thunder stimuli] (i. e. covering ears, anticipating loud noise) No response to neutral stimulus [has not been paired with an unconditioned stimulus] Unconditioned [natural] response to unconditioned stimulus [naturally triggers response] (i. e. saliva automatic at sight of food) Neutral stimulus + unconditioned stimulus = conditioned stimulus & conditioned response (no cognition required -- works for all animals) Ader & cohen -- discovered immune systems could be classically conditioned (taste of antihistamine was effective to trigger immune response to help cope with allergies) Tim horton"s {logo = ns} -- coffee {us} makes us feel better {ur} -- logo becomes cs and response becomes cr. Extinction -- gradually diminished response when us no longer follows with cs (i. e. tim"s closes down)
