Receives info from environment (internal or external) and will analyze, organize, and interpret the info, then use it to send signals to structures like muscles and glands. Produces conscious experience; being aware of ourselves and our environment. Parietal nervous system: all nerves in the body upside of the nervous system. 3 types: sensory neurons: receive info from environment and send it to central nervous system. Interneurons: found only in central nervous system, communicate with other neurons: motor neurons: receive orders from central nervous system and transmit them to muscles and glands. Action potentials are electrical impulses fired by neurons which lead to the release of neurotransmitters which carry messages between neurons. *when neurons communicate with each other they use electrochemical messages* The brain is 80% water, containing ions such as na+, k+ and cl- These ions are found in different concentrations inside and outside of the cell.
