Document Summary

Eye movements are the beginning of a dream rapid/irregular, closed eyes dart around, genitals become aroused. Morning erections stem from the night"s last rem period, with it lasting (cid:885)0- Brain"s motor cortex is active during rem, brainstem blocks its messages. 45mins longer in younger males, impotent men still have sleep-related erections (so the problem is most likely psychological) leaving your muscles relaxed. Rem sleep sometimes called paradoxical sleep as the body is internally aroused, with waking-like brain activity, yet asleep and externally calm (sleep paralysis) Sleep cycle is around 90 minutes for younger adults then nrem-3 grows shorter and disappears with the rem/nrem-2 getting longer. 20-(cid:884)5% of your night"s sleep in rem sleep. 4 sleep stages are: rem (story-like dream, nrem-1 (fleeting images, nrem-2, nrem-3 (minimal awareness) The pattern of sleep is as follows: through nrem-1 then nrem-2 then nrem-3. Not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep. Morning light activates light-sensitive retinal proteins which trigger signals to brain"s suprachiasmatic nucleus.
