Considered an individual"s way of thinking, perceiving, feeling and behaving: our i". Freudian theory of personality- childhood experiences were built and once you reached puberty, you were set. Freud organized our consciousness into three levels of awareness. Pre-conscious: similar to how we understand our long-term memory our experiences and knowledge that can be called into the working conscious at any given moment. Unconscious: primary driver of our behaviour: repressed memories, sexual instincts, aggressive instincts, unnamed desires. Also organized our personality into 3 parts. Id , first space of personality, in place from birth. It is the interactions of these three parts that shape our decisions, attitudes and actions. Death: aggressive and dangerous behaviour pleasure principle. Ego- toddler- i don"t get what i want all the time . Balances the id"s needs with the reality of the world. Negotiates the waters between the id"s demands and the appropriateness of the situation.
