Document Summary

We go through life, changing behaviours as a result of experience. Learning allows us to be adaptable and flexible. There are 3 ways we learn and that shape us. Learning to form associations from two events or stimuli. One event announces the arrival of another event. It is very adaptive because if you know something you can take precautions. (ex: see lightening going to hear thunder, sound of rattle snake, etc. ) One of the biggest names in psychology. Physic secretion: dog learns to associate him with food. Acquisition: process by which the dog learns to salivate at the sound of the bell. Factors the influence/affect acquisition: frequency, timing, and order of presentation. Extinction: teach dog to stop salivating at the sound of the bell. Spontaneous recovery: extinction takes place, but then it is possible that without training, the dog salivates at the sound of the bell (stimulus reoccurs). Discrimination: dog only salivates at specific bell.
