Document Summary
Control all other independent variables (known and unknown). This must happen because some of these other independent variables could affect our results. If you do not control these you cannot be sure or confident that change in dependent variables id due to manipulation of independent variable. Confounding variable: not interested in studying but must be control or they confuse our results. Unknown i. v"s by doing random sampling: every subject has an equal chance of being in either the control or experimental group, chance and only chance determines which group they are in. Placebo effect: inert substance with no therapeutic value. Us getting or feeling better after doing fake treatment because we believe the treatment is going to help. If the placebo group and experimental group both improve by the same rate, then drug being tested has no real value. What they know or don"t know will affect results. Control by blind procedure: also researcher bias: control by double blinding procedure.
