The nature and nurture of behaviour: introduction. In fact there is an interaction between nature and nurture: ex. Tanzania: a beautiful country in africa; 40% children have stunted mental and physical growth due to malnutrition; nurture has influenced nature. Behaviour genetics: study of the relative effects of nature and nurture on individual differences in behaviour and mental processes. Like a book: organism book, chromosome chapter, gene paragraph, dna molecule - word, nucleotide letter. 46 chromosomes: 23 from mom"s egg and 23 from dad"s sperm. Nucleotides: biochemical building blocks; four types: adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine, paired as follows. Cytosine guanine: if one letter is changed, the whole meaning is changed. The difference between races is so small it is considered negligible. Genetic similarity between humans and other species: chimpanzees: 95-98, mouse: 80, banana: 50, fruit fly: 44, daisies: 30, evolutionary psychology (ep) Influenced by the theory of evolution and darwin.
