Assumptions: according to freud, people suffer from psychological disorders due to childhood repressions; who you are is the result of what has occurred in childhood; presence of repressions in the subconscious mind. Aim: to bring all the unconscious factors out; bringing unconscious factors to consciousness. The patient is encouraged to share his thoughts/feelings without censoring or filtering: resistance. Something approached that leads to anxiety: dream analysis. Use dreams and symbolism to access the unconscious mind: transference. During therapy, patients develop feelings for the therapist; could be any type of feelings. These feelings are not for the therapist but about significant others in their lives: interpretation. The therapist will offer an explanation of the problem. Psychodynamic therapy: shorter and faster version of psychoanalysis, humanistic therapy. Aim: is to provide the appropriate environment to accelerate us towords human potential. Responsibility of what occurs from that moment forward.
