Social cognitive: evaluation of behaviour in a social context. Started as physician, specialized in nervous disorders . Determinist: believed there was cause for everything, nothing happens by accident. Phallic stage: when ppl with penises realize they can derive pleasure from genitals. Identification period: complex passes and child begins to identify with same sex parent and adopt superego principles. According to freud, this all contributes to our gender identity. Fixations: unresolved conflicts manifest as maladaptive behaviour. Shifted control from the unconscious to conscious. Child"s struggle to overcome feelings of inferiority that guided development. Him and horney argued it is social not sexual tensions that made childhood so important in development. Anxiety is the driving force for our need for love and security. Penis envy is fake and women are equal. Collective unconscious: a sort of racial repository of experiences. Psychodynamic theory: importance of unconscious, struggles, id, superego, importance of childhood. Projective tests: ambiguous stimuli to probe unconscious.
