Document Summary
Piaget--biologist with strong interest in how children acquire knowledge. Arguesd nature of children"s knowledge changes as they develop: genetic. As child for their reasoning as to their mistake. Considers that all aspects of cognition change in an integrated fashion. Knowledge is acquired through physical or mental actions done to an object. Not born with this, there has to be interaction with the environment-- active participant. Ex. you get understanding of a ball with different experiences of a ball--ex. You begin to realize that balls have many different definitions--they bounce, but they also throw. Fixed order of stages, you can"t" skip any stages. Go from physical interaction of environment to mental interaction. Intelligence: not something a child has but something a child does. Schemes are psychological structures; by manipulating an object, form an idea of the object from series of actions (schemes) associated with it. Organized ways of making sense of experience.
