Difference between child psych and developmental psych: child focuses on only child and dev focuses on all age groups. Two main goals: describe behaviour and explain the developmental change and behaviour (whats changes and how come) Childhood is now considered this very special time, before there was a time where childhood was very short. As society changes the period of childhood changes. 18% of kids live under the poverty line mostly living on reserves. Why do we study kids: a lot of changes occur in a small period of time. Very important factor of trust comes from your parents, if you can trust them to take care of you then you will carry that on to your relationships. A lot of women in their late 30s having babies by themselves. Domains of development: physical, cognitive, emotional and social. (nurture) peer; family; exposure to violence; education- purpose; survival; trauma; neglect. (develop predictably) size; intelligence; cognition; maturity; self-regulation.
