Identity exploration: continuing identity, don"t have parents to influence exploration, after high school theres a lot more to explore. Instability: not in a stable job or relationship, moving. Self-focus: related to identity exploration, figuring out what you want to do in life. Feeling in-between: have some responsibilities but you aren"t responsible for anyone else yet. Possibilities: choosing pathway for your life, who am i, what kind of work do i want to do, where am i going to live, etc. Relationship improves (greater closeness, less conflict) when children leave home. Less opportunity to conflict, more time to appreciate them, in control of seeing them, want to see them, made the choice. But report more emotional closeness and warmth (not living together, not as much conflict, parents influence is less intense) Less influenced/related to relationship with parents than in adolescence.
