Anorexia nervosa: voluntary starvation, afftected individuals become pathologically thin, spiles at puberty and again in emerging adulthood. Bulimia nervosa (binge-purge syndrome): being eating and subsequent purging, usually by induced vomiting and use of laxatives. Binge eating disorder: overeat, quickly consuming large amounts of ice cream, cake . until their stomachs hurt. Limbic system: site of dear and anxiety matures before regions where planning, emotional regulation, and impulse control occur. Hormones directly target the amygdala (key component of the limbic system) Teenagers are fully grown a decade before they are ready for adult roles. Emotional rushes are unchecked by caution, reflection, or planning. Increasing myelination and slower inhibition allows lightning fast reactions, making adolescent athletes quick and fearless as they steal a base . Formal operational thought: piget, 4th and final stage of cognitive development, characterized by systematic logical thinking and by understanding abstractions; including assumptions that have no necessary relation to reality.
