Experience with other conditions influences performance on each condition. Control by counterbalancing order of conditions across participants. Colour used to denote altitude and speed. Observer"s expertise: regression to the mean. An issue when participants are selected for being extreme. What about if you get a 65% on your first exam: selection. As we discussed at length: important to have random assignment to group or match groups so they"re the same before treatment: attrition. An issue with longitudinal studies or studies that measure repeatedly over several days. Must look carefully at characteristics of drop-outs: diffusion of treatment. Imagine if all the participants went and told their friends after being briefed: subject effects. People tend to be suspicious when they come in to do a psych experiment.
